/// architect, Nagpur

Curious
by design.

An architect working across three different answers to the same instinct — build it well, question why, and see what that question opens onto next.

Ar. Ankit Goglani, Architect and Founder of COZ Design Studio, Nagpur

The thread

Trained as an architect. Runs a turnkey design practice. Co-directs a research-driven design typology built around one specific question: who is a space actually designed for, and who gets left out of that design? Building toward 3D-printed construction. None of it started as a plan — it started as that one question, and where it kept leading next.

The path so far

Story

2017
Hiren Patel Architects
March – October 2017. Contributed to projects including ITC Narmada.
2018
The thesis year
Graduated top of class from PIADS, Nagpur. While researching his thesis, Susan Cain's Quiet pointed toward Elaine Aron's research on Highly Sensitive People — work that would later mature into Solitary Spaces. The thesis itself, "Solitude Seeking Spaces: Need of the Hour," was published that September and won Best Thesis Award.
2018–19
Paramjeet Singh Ahuja Design Studio (PSA)
Contributed to the ISKCON Temple, Nagpur, and the MNLU Nagpur campus.
2020–22
Faculty, INIFD
November 2020 – February 2022. Taught alongside building his own practice.
2020
COZ Design Studio, founded
While teaching at INIFD, with the world shut down by COVID, an opportunity came up to design a bungalow extension — in a red zone, with every practical obstacle that implied. He didn't have it fully figured out. He went toward it anyway, with real enthusiasm, and COZ Design Studio grew out of seeing that project through.
2023
Solitary Spaces, pitched
Presented at the 10th Annual Global Nagpur Summit (Nagpur First Foundation, with IIM Nagpur) — a top-10 finalist among 50 startups, pitched with Simran Goglani, MSc Clinical Psychology, now co-director. Placed 2nd.
2024
Incubated at IIM Nagpur
Solitary Spaces accepted a 3-year incubation term at InFED, active since April 2024.
Ongoing
Experience Centers, PBOX & FurniKit Pro
Five completed Experience Center projects for AEC-industry clients under COZ; early-stage 3D-printed construction research at PBOX; and FurniKit Pro, a BOQ/BOM tool for architects and interior designers, currently being built.

The person behind it

An architect who treats a building the way he treats a question — worth taking apart until it actually makes sense.

Ankit trained under Hiren Patel Architects and later Paramjeet Singh Ahuja Design Studio, contributing to projects including ITC Narmada, the ISKCON Temple in Nagpur, and the MNLU Nagpur campus, before founding COZ Design Studio in 2020.

His published research on introversion and solitude-seeking spaces — later broadened through Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) research — led to Solitary Spaces, now incubated at IIM Nagpur and co-directed with Simran Goglani, MSc Clinical Psychology.

In another key

Also, a multi-instrumentalist.

Guitar, certified under Trinity College London; mouth organ; and piano. A different instrument, in the literal sense — but the same instinct for structure, timing, and knowing why a note is where it is.
